Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But there is one main switch for them all. The eyes see. Many lights appear to us. The tongue tells the tastes of many substances. The ears hear many kinds of sounds. What is the root base of all these? This has been called the Fundamental Principle. That Fundamental Principle is the base of everything. This we have called the “Ātma”. By this very Ātma principle, many kinds of thoughts and feelings arise from our heart. This heart itself is the Veda. These thoughts are the Śrutis. The inner meanings that come from these Śrutis are Vedānta. So we must not imagine that the Vedas are off somewhere. These sounds, present everywhere, are right with us, before our eyes, at our side. So, from the Veda that is our heart, we must keep recognising the names that are the sounds. We must make the effort needed to recognise such words. The inner meanings of these words are Vedānta. “Hands and feet everywhere, eyes, heads and faces everywhere, ears everywhere in the world: That stands enveloping all,” it has been said. If we recognise its inner meaning well, then alone will this meaning of the Veda become clear to us. For the past three days, each morning in the Purnachandra Auditorium, you will have noticed the paṇḍits chanting the mantras in many kinds of tones. As we listen to those sounds, a kind of joy arises. As we listen to the words, joy arises, but the meaning of those words is not clear to us. What use is it fretting about the meanings? First recognise the sound. These words carry who knows how many kinds of meaning! Today, among the many meanings, people take the harmful ones and forget the true one. Because we forget the true meaning, we are unable to recognise the principle of Satya.

The principle of the Paramātma itself appears in the form of nature

Embodiments of Prema! Students! We must not give up because we have not understood the words. We must enter into inquiry. That inquiry will follow the principle of Prema. So, if we are to inquire, we must take our feelings into account.
