Passage 10

In plain words

Merely opening the eyes of flesh is of no use. You must open the eye of Jñāna. Only then will you receive the fitting result.

I have no need of money; I need only Prema

These days you cannot get admission to a school anywhere without money. For a newborn child people book a seat in an elementary school in advance. Even if a child is bright, no one will admit it without the means to pay the fee. But our educational institutions are not like that. Whoever it may be, if they are eligible, we must give them a seat. I have no need of money; I need only Prema. What can be won with Prema cannot be won with anything else. Students! All this time you have studied in Swami's college. Did your studies ever cost you even a single naya paisa? No. I worry that some expense may fall on you somewhere. I am telling you one small thing. I have never spoken of such things. When exams come, the children in the hostel keep their lights on all night and study. With that the electricity bill went up. One day the electricity department cut off the power supply. They did their duty. The warden came and told Me about it. “With no lights the children are suffering a great deal, Swami,” he said. “Silly fellow! Am I some outsider? Why could you not tell Me this beforehand?” I chided. “Swami! You are spending so much on the children's studies; You are taking on so much responsibility. I did not tell You, wondering how I could put this burden too on You,” he said. “How much has the bill come to?” I asked. He said seventy thousand had to be paid. At once I gave him the money: “Do not worry at all, and do not tell the children. Pay this bill at once and get the light back for the children,” I said. In this way I do many things for the children.
