In plain words
You think that you are reviling others. No, no. You are reviling yourselves. For the Ātma in everyone is one and the same. If you do not like something, stay silent. But do not revile others. Foster good qualities. If you go on fostering bad qualities, however many good deeds you do, they are of no use. If you are not able to do good deeds, at least speak good words. You cannot always oblige, but you can speak always obligingly. To invent faults in others that are not there and spread them about is demonic. Give fitting help to those in difficulty. The difficulty that has come to them today may come to you too tomorrow. No one can escape suffering. So you must pray, “Lokāssamastāḥ sukhino bhavantu,” for the welfare of all. Your heart must become a Hiraṇyagarbha. Only then will you earn a good name. You need not be great; you must be known as good. You must be worthy of everyone's love. Everyone loves God. For God loves everyone; He hates no one; whatever He does, He does only for your good. You too, foster such Prema. Follow the path of Satya. Hold on to morality and integrity. “A nation without morality comes to nothing.” It is not enough that you merely have patriotism; you must have morality and integrity too.
Embodiments of Prema! God is not pleased just because you speak sweetly. Put those words into practice. If you are heroes at giving ‘platform speeches’ and zeroes in ‘practical life’, what use is it? You must be heroes in ‘practical life’. That I like very much. How did the Prophet Muhammad, or Jesus, come to have so good a name? Only by doing good deeds, is it not! Along with Greatness, there must be Goodness too. Many great souls have been born in the land of Bhārata. ‘So many great souls; my salutations to them all,’ said Tyāgarāja. Though he was a great scholar, he conducted himself with great humility and obedience.
