In plain words
We must be willing to work hard
Embodiments of Prema! Today the world is subject to many troubles. There is a shortage of food and drink. What is the cause of this? Man is not doing his actions as he should. When each person carries out his duty properly, there will be no shortage at all of food and drink. To hope for happiness without working hard is foolish. ‘Na sukhāt labhyate sukham.’ From happiness we do not get happiness. Happiness comes from hard work alone. So we must work hard. Only then can we receive the right result. Whatever actions we do, their ‘reflection, reaction, resound’ come back to us ourselves. The result comes exactly in keeping with the actions we do. For our ‘action’ comes only the fitting ‘reaction’. For the ‘sound’ we make comes only the fitting ‘resound’. That is, only when we speak sacred words can we hear sacred words from others.
Today we must enquire well into what happiness is and what sorrow is. To eat one's fill, to sleep in comfort without the least effort... this is what they take happiness to be. That is no happiness at all. We must work hard. We must strive for the welfare of society. We must give the poor the help they need. Only then will Śānti and happiness come to us. Every one hopes to have Śānti. Where is Śānti? It is within you. Outside, there are only Pieces, no Peace. You yourselves are the embodiments of Śānti. You yourselves are the embodiments of Satya. You yourselves are the embodiments of Prema. You yourselves are the embodiments of God. Everything is within you. How foolish it is to search the outer world for the Śānti that is within you! Śānti is not outside at all; it is ever within you. If you are to experience the Śānti within you, you must make the effort it needs. You must turn your gaze within.
