Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

When they took Me to the operation room, he too went in. He too put on the dress the doctors wear. He sat right there. I said, ‘Satyajit! You cannot bear it if you see blood. Go outside,’ I said. ‘What Swami says is true. Seeing blood does frighten me. But I will not be afraid of it,’ he said firmly. He sat close by in the operation room. They took a hammer and were striking the bones. Not a small hammer, a big hammer. He was not frightened by anything. He had to see what they would do. They did it. After it was all over, ‘Swami! How did You endure so much pain? How did You bear it?’ The principle of Prema in devotees like you, that alone is My strength. The very word Prema is the root cause of every strength. When one holds to such a principle of Prema, whatever pain comes to anyone, no harm at all comes. He followed the body that had won such a thing. There must be a firm faith; trust, unwavering, must be without doubt. What you say in words and what you do in deeds must both be one. Because they are like that, many devotees have been receiving Swami's compassion. In all the villages they have kept doing these bhajans without a break. What was their prayer? Our Swami must get well quickly. Our Swami must come out. Our Swami must be healthy. Just this was their prayer. Whoever you asked: our Swami must be well. Some thousands, lakhs of telegrams came to Me. In this way devotees could not put it in so many words, but deep within they kept grieving greatly. Their grief itself turned into tapas. The fruit of that tapas is the root cause of Swami's health. So if I am now so happy and so bold, their Bhakti and surrender alone are the root cause. I did not use My power at all. Had I used it, I could have become well in a single moment. There is no selfishness in Me. The selfish wish that I should get well has never been in Me. Everyone must be happy.
