In plain words
Rukmiṇī's wedding
Some time passed. When Kṛṣṇa came of age, efforts towards a marriage began. Rukmiṇī, daughter of the king of Vidarbha, loved Kṛṣṇa. But her brother Rukmi had made up his mind to marry her off to Śiśupāla, a friend of his. She did not want it. She wrote a letter to Kṛṣṇa and sent it through a learned man. “Kṛṣṇa! I can bear it no longer; I cannot endure this suffering. Against my wish, my father is to hold my wedding with Śiśupāla tomorrow. If You do not come before this appointed hour and take me away, my life will not last,” she wrote. Kṛṣṇa knew the plan Rukmi had made. He Himself made a ‘master plan’ to get Rukmiṇī out of there and bring her away.
Following their family custom, Rukmiṇī was going to the temple to worship the goddess Gaurī before the wedding. Anxious in her mind whether Kṛṣṇa would come or not, she was walking slowly. As she reached the temple, Kṛṣṇa, who was waiting right at the gate, lifted her onto His chariot in the blink of an eye and began to carry her off. Rukmi blocked Kṛṣṇa's way. A fierce battle took place between them. Kṛṣṇa defeated him, took Rukmiṇī safely to His own city and married her. From that day Śiśupāla held a violent hatred for Kṛṣṇa. Rukmi too was very angry. But they could do nothing to Kṛṣṇa and kept quiet.
Kṛṣṇa Janmāṣṭamī is truly an auspicious day!
Kṛṣṇa had to face many hardships and quarrels in His life. From His birth to His end, many wars went on. Kṛṣṇa's troubles began with His very birth. When Kṛṣṇa was born, Kaṃsa subjected even the people of Vrepalle to many cruelties. Śiśupāla, Dantavaktra and others bore hatred towards Kṛṣṇa and put many obstacles in His way. Not only that: even Kṛṣṇa's marriage led to a war.
