Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Even for what they do not know, they use the word God. They cannot tell the true meaning of ‘God’. So, to tell the meaning of Satya, there is only one's own experience. How can you recognise that experience? 1 plus 1 came to two. 2 plus 2 came to four. 2 minus 1 came to one: people can speak of these pluses and minuses, but what is the basis? We can speak of all the substances in this world. But we do not try to recognise the true nature of this.

The whole world is made up of objects. All this is the material world. But beyond this there is another, a mental world. Beyond this mental world there is yet another. That is what Buddhi grasps, beyond the senses. For this transcendental we are making a great deal of effort. But we may recognise any number of things. We may recognise everything in the world and give the number: so many crores. After those crores, what more can you say? Look at everything, and in the end nothing is understood. We use only words, but we do not try to recognise what the word itself is. That alone is in every human being. That fundamental principle is in every human being. When we say Love is God, love is everywhere. This fundamental principle is in all. If we try to understand it, one thing alone comes out. That can be recognised only on the spiritual path. If you keep thinking, slowly and inwardly, in the end that one alone comes out. Today people are not examining. Even this examining is turning out senseless. No, no. We must look inward, with true vision.

Embodiments of Prema! Do not waste your time on what has no meaning. God is; you yourself are God. Believe this. Only through faith can we recognise; without faith we cannot recognise anything. So first believe in the ‘I’. Only then can the second, ‘you’, be understood. When ‘I’ is not understood, how can ‘you’ be understood. One small word. When the two, I plus you, join, it becomes we. We plus He: what does it become? It becomes ‘He’. ‘He’ is what lasts for ever. I changes. We changes. In life you yourself keep changing. There is no use in relying on this changing thing. For everything, ‘He’. That is divinity. That very divinity is in you, in them, in all. He is everywhere, with you, above you, below you, around you. But ‘I’ cannot be said to be in me. So that ‘He’ teaches divinity in full. We must make such a principle firm with faith. One small matter. ‘I love this man; apart from him I do not love anything.’ How can this be true? You do not love even yourself. How can you love him? This is my body. Can you trust the body? You do not. This body is bound to change. Everything is bound to change. That divinity is beyond everything. That is the true Ātma principle. It has no other name. ‘Ātma’ itself is the name. Who gave the name Ātma? It did not come by someone's giving it. The Ātma has filled every place. What name can you give such an Ātma principle. Giving names is only wasting time. Do not waste time giving these names. Believe in it, trust it, and spread it. Only when you have complete faith does trust in everything arise. From the rain, drops of water are falling. When all these drops join, the vessel is filled. Loving everyone, saying ‘I love you’, is like the raindrops. But when you say ‘I love’, to what does it belong? This itself is called the Ātma. This Ātma has no name such as drop or water.
