In plain words
No parents try to notice such things. We must watch carefully what kind of books the children read at home. Even when children read silly storybooks, some do not care. “They like it, so they read. What is wrong with that?” So they stand up for the children. They themselves are spoiling their own children. To be proud that we are giving our children a grand education, without setting their conduct right, is madness.
“Our boy is studying in English medium at a convent,” they say proudly. What sort of English is that? “Baa.. baa.. black sheep”: is this what children should be taught? Studying such things, the children too are turning out like ‘black sheep’. Whatever verses are written in the books, they enjoy having the children recite them for show, but parents do not examine what benefit the children gain from such study. When I see studies of this kind: why build these schools? Why educate the children? Why spoil them? That feeling grows strong in Me.
Śānti lies in good conduct itself
Students! Do not swagger that you are getting a great education. Along with these studies, nurture good qualities too. When there are no good qualities, what use is learning? Only when you nurture character does education give refinement. Today silly storybooks are seen in students' hands. Elders must see to it that such books do not come onto the market. Books must come out that nurture good qualities in students, girls and boys.
Spending many crores of rupees, taking not a naya paisa in fees from the children, and getting even the books they need Myself, I am trying to teach them in a fine way. So many come. Not all of them can pay fees, can they! We have no need of fees. You must gain Peace (Śānti). That is all I want. Where is Peace to be found? Today, wherever you go, you find nothing but Pieces, no Peace.
