How can such studies give true knowledge? We must bring a great change into today's education.
Students! You must take it upon yourselves to acquire a good education and give the world an example to follow. You must uphold the country's good name. You must study the learning our ancient ṛṣis handed down. To swagger that we are great just because we have taken a few degrees is madness. What is the state of society today? What is the way we sustain society? What must be done to shape society into the very best? No such thinking is seen in the students at all. Without understanding the condition of society, some people say they are serving society. That is not service to society; it is service to the grave! If society is to rise to a higher state and the people are to reach the best state, we must develop right education. We must foster in students the inquiry into what is good and what is bad.
Parents rejoice when their boy gets a seat in a college, but how can the boy serve the country through that education? Are good qualities growing in him? They make no such inquiry. They do not have so broad a vision. Teachers teach what is in the textbooks, but they do not tell the government whether those books are right or not. Even if someone does report it, the officials pay no heed. Giving the students a certificate because they have somehow passed, and sending them off... with that they feel their duty is done. So the students alone are not the cause of today's sorry state. Parents, teachers and the government also have a share in it.
To set children's conduct right is the first duty
Children must bring their parents a good name. They must work hard for the progress of society. It is not enough just to earn the name of being great in class. What qualities are the children cultivating? Parents must consider such matters as whether they wish for the welfare of society or not. How do the children behave in front of them? How do they carry themselves in the bazaar?
