In plain words
Bringing the candy sugar of steadfast resolve, adding none other than the cow's ghee of good sense, skimming away the dirt of falsehood, the sages of old cooked it into syrup. Here is the sweet called the name of Rāma; come, devotees!
Today, without taking such a sacred sweet, without drinking the divine juice of Rāma, people eat worldly sweets and turn into ‘diabetes patients’. To get rid of that disease they use ‘insulin’. They take medicines. Usually, at weddings and at other festive occasions, they bring trayfuls of sweets and serve them. But some say, ‘Not for us, not for us.’ Why? It is not that they do not like sweet things. The disease ‘diabetes’ has entered them, and so they say they do not want sweets. But the sweet that is the name of Rāma has come to cure disease, not to cause diseases. Man today is forgetting such a sacred name of Rāma, the essence of the Veda.
In ancient times everyone, from the herdsman to the scholar, used to remember the name of Rāma. That is why there were not so many diseases in those days. The name of God itself protected them from every disease. The day we cast off physical and worldly feelings, that very day this physical disease is cured. To cure this disease of worldly existence, Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna taught a great many ideals. The root causes of physical diseases are Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa.
