Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The experience of oneness is possible for man alone. You were born to experience oneness, not to wander in multiplicity. You must bring your life to its close in oneness alone. Only then will your birth find its fulfilment.

What devotees need is unshakable faith

Today I gave the ‘All Rounder Gold Medal’ to a girl who stood first in every field. That girl has been a diabetes patient from the time she was born. Her parents and the doctors went on giving her a great many medicines. But there was no result. That girl has unshakable faith. That is why, whatever level her blood sugar is at, she suffers no distress at all. ‘Don't worry about anything. Swami is with me,’ she keeps telling her parents, giving them courage. In this way sixteen years have passed by now. She studied up to the twelfth class in Puttaparthi and then joined the college at Anantapur. Keeping Swami's teaching in her mind and forgetting her own suffering, she spends her days with steady Bhakti and faith.

Some days, if you look, her blood sugar is very high. However many medicines they give, not one of those medicines works. This is not something medicines can cure; her steady faith itself keeps her safe. ‘This illness can do nothing to you. Put your faith fully in Divinity. Lend your ear to no one's words,’ Swami told that girl firmly. That alone is how she has risen to such heights. She will go on to higher studies as well. Whoever it may be, faith must be set firm on one word. She has no worry at all that her sugar is high. ‘It comes, it goes. It has nothing to do with me’: thinking so, she stays courageous.

In this way, we must fear nothing. The body is ‘a house of filth, a menial's basket that rots with disease … ’ We must not put our trust in a body of this nature. We must leave to the body itself the pain that comes to the body, and not let it into the mind. That girl's father works as a professor in the college at Puttaparthi.
