Passage 8

In plain words

Fill your heart with Prema; you will not find a single moment without Ānanda. You must not be crushed by small troubles and drive Ānanda away. If anyone asks you, ‘Well, how are you?’, you should answer, ‘I am happy.’ Ānanda is what wells up from the heart. It is in all of you. Come to Me once and see. What Ānanda you will find! But if you come carrying bad thoughts and wicked desires in you, it will be no use.

Students! You must not worry about anything. Suppose you have failed an examination. “I failed because I did not write well. This time I will study well and pass”: encourage yourselves like this. But you must not fret, ‘Alas, I have failed!’ When you keep your intentions right, you will always be full of Ānanda. Hardships and sorrows are like passing clouds. We must not be troubled at the sight of them. We must always stay calm and full of Ānanda.

Hardships are of man’s own making, not God’s

Embodiments of Prema! Last month the sea rose up (the tsunami) and brought sorrow to the people of many countries. This is of man’s own making, not God’s. It is by his own resolves that man suffers so many pains. So we must not say that all this was given by God. God is always the One who gives us Ānanda! He is the One who loves everyone! Prema is His very nature. Then why do these pains come? Man’s own karmas are the cause. So do not stoop to bad deeds. Further on in this year, some more ‘troubles’ will come. But we must bear them, push past them and go forward. All these come and go like Passing clouds. So we must stay courageous.
