In plain words
We must learn such selfless love from the mother and make it a habit. We must give ourselves over to a mother's love. A mother's heart is very large. We must not cause pain to such a heart. We must not do any deed that hurts the mother.
To forget a mother's love and chase after the love of others is madness. A mother bears many hardships, bringing up the children and seeing to their schooling. For the children's sake, if need be, she is ready to do even a labourer's work. What a betrayal it is to forget such a mother's love! We must never forget a mother's love. Divine feelings grow in children through a mother's love alone. Wherever there is a virtuous mother, welfare and prosperity come in every way. Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa's mother was a woman of great virtue. However many troubles and losses befell her, she held unshaken Bhakti and faith in God and spent her days in good feelings and good deeds, and in that way she became worthy of God's grace. Take the life of any great soul you like: their greatness sprang from nothing but a mother's love! He who has won a mother's love can win everything. Precisely because he was worthy of a mother's love, Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa won a great name. Otherwise, were there not any number of great men in the state of Bengal! Were there not any number of rich men! Were there not any number of learned men! But because they had no Bhakti and faith towards God, they could not win success in life. Precisely because Rāmakṛṣṇa had perfect Bhakti and faith, he loved his mother, bowed his head to her command, and led an exemplary life. He kept teaching that there is nothing in the world greater than a mother's love. The mother herself is God; God Himself is the mother. It is not good to cause pain to such a mother, the embodiment of love. Only when we foster a mother's love will our life shine bright, a wedding every day, green festoons at the door. Whatever a mother does, she does it only for our good, not for harm. So, even if a mother beats or scolds, we must bear it.
