In plain words
‘Educare’ means the education that brings out the divinity within us. Divinity is called ‘consciousness’. Only because ‘consciousness’ is in man is he able to know everything. But he does not recognise the ‘consciousness’ that is right within him. ‘Consciousness’ alone protects all human beings. However highly educated they may be, however great as scholars, however great the books they have read, they are unable to know this truth.
Worldly education is of a merely negative nature. What do you achieve by studying such artificial learning? For education of this kind men go to many countries. But to learn true education you need not go anywhere. That is precisely ‘Educare’. It arises from the inner feeling, and goes on protecting man in every way. Mind, word, deed: the oneness of these three is itself ‘Educare’. Only the one who has come to know oneself is truly educated.
Man today is coming to know everything in the world. ‘Who is this man? Who is that man?’ this he finds out; but ‘Who am I?’ he himself does not find out. He asks the person in front of him, ‘Who are you?’, but he does not ask himself, ‘Who am I?’ True education is nothing but knowing who one is. ‘Sir! Where have you come from?’ When asked this, you say, ‘I have come from America.’ This goes with a negative outlook. Without knowing who ‘I’ is, you say, ‘I have come.’ The consciousness called ‘I’ is present everywhere. Then who travelled here from America? The body. So when someone asks, ‘Who are you?’, ‘I am I’ alone is the right answer.
We must rest not on the mind but on the Ātma
We say, ‘This is my body’, ‘This is my mind’, ‘This is my Buddhi’. All these are merely tools.
