Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But look at their conduct, and it is the very opposite. Teachers must deal strictly with such students. Conduct is very important. Only when it is good can a man rise to a high state in life. If your conduct is to be good, you must join good company. You must read good books.

Prema is the foremost learning

In olden days disciples lived with their gurus in great humility and obedience. But among today's students, respect for teachers has dwindled to nothing. They mock the very ones who taught them learning. They topple the very ones who gave them food. Good qualities, good intellect, devotion to truth, Bhakti, discipline, the doing of duty: only one who has qualities such as these can be called a ‘student’. One who behaves against them is called ‘stupid’. We must not join up with such a ‘stupid’. Yet you should not call him ‘stupid’ either. Have neither good nor bad dealings with him. Leave him as he is, and you stay as you are. Only then will you do well. Everyone will praise you. You must love everyone. Prema is the foremost learning. Only one who teaches the way to grow in Prema is a true guru. Today there are a great many such teachers. I founded these institutions with just this intention: to make good children. In Our library there is not a single bad book. The children do as the teachers tell them. Even when they go home for the holidays, they do not like to stay there long.
