Passage 4

In plain words

Can anyone say, ‘My Ātma principle has died’! Even when the body falls, the Ātma principle remains forever. Only as long as there is water in the vessel is the reflection seen. If you pour away the water, no reflection is seen. A small example. In our house there is a well. On top of the house there is a water tank. There is a pond. Rivers flow. There is the ocean too. In all of these the sun appears as a reflection. Every man is like a stream. In this stream the sun called the Ātma is seen. The one sun appears to all the worlds as one for each. When it is day for the Americans, it is night for us. When it is night for them, it is day for us. Beyond that, there is no such difference as an Indian sun and an American sun, is there? There is a difference in time, but the sun is one. In the same way, the one divinity is seen in all. God is one. Truth is one. Love is one. Live in love. If you live with Satya and Prema, you can see divinity in everything.

God is one! Who is that God? You yourself! Each one must think, ‘I myself am God.’ You must believe in the sameness that says, ‘I am God, and the person before me is none other than God.’ Through this, bad qualities such as Ahaṅkāra and hatred drop away. You think you are quarrelling with somebody. But in truth you are quarrelling with none but yourself. In life, victory and defeat are natural to man. So do not look down on the one who has lost. Think, ‘I myself have lost.’ Not comparing him with yourself in this way — ‘He is a stranger. He is separate, I am separate’: if you think so, difference begins right there.

Who are you? Some say, ‘I am the body.’ But how long does the body last? Like a bubble on water, who knows when it will go! Do not think you are this momentary body.
