In plain words
wherever you may be, the One who protects you is God alone!” So take refuge in God. Study what you have to study; learn worldly subjects. But never forget the higher learning. If you forget it, there is no gain in learning any number of subjects.
All the good and bad you experience arise from you!
Clouds keep coming across the sun and moon that shine in the sky, and keep passing away. The pleasures and pains you experience are like passing clouds. Do not put your trust in such clouds and misuse your intelligence. Put your intelligence to good use, and become great souls, become an example to others. Only then will the learning you have studied bear fruit. Speak good words with good feelings. Do not use harsh words. Speak softly and sweetly. If you snap ‘Go!’ at the person before you, his heart breaks to pieces. Only when you keep your own heart good do you gladden the hearts of others. Only when you are at peace can those around you be at peace. If you are restless, you make those around you restless too. If you want to make everyone happy, if you want the whole country to be at peace, first of all be at peace yourselves. If you are peaceful, the whole world will be peaceful. Happiness and joy are within you, not outside. If you let impurity into yourselves, the whole world will look impure to you. ‘Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati’. All the good and bad you experience arise from you yourselves. God has no connection with it at all. God does not enter into it in the least. The bad is your own, the good is your own. So you must not lay the blame on God. God is the embodiment of pure, unwavering, selfless Prema, peaceful by nature. So you too must foster Prema and Śānti. At every time, in every situation, you must stay calm. Then peace will surely arise around you too.
