Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must make our heart broad. Heart does not mean the heart of flesh. If our heart grows enlarged, the doctors say they must operate. We must broaden our feelings. Instead of stretching out your legs and taking up the whole space, if you fold your legs and sit, someone else can come and sit beside you, can they not! In this way we must help one another. We must find the way by which everyone gets a chance.

We were born precisely to give joy to our parents

Students! The summer holidays have begun. You are going to your own home towns. Stay happy, going over in your minds what you studied here and the things you heard. Make your parents happy as well. Do not cause them pain in any matter. If you are happy, your parents too will be happy. Our parents are of the very first importance to us. That is why it was said, ‘Revere your mother as God, revere your father as God.’ Making them happy is our chief duty. It is not enough to eat your own food and look after your own comfort. First of all, we must make our parents happy. ‘Eating, drinking, sleeping, dying’: this is not what life means. We were not born for eating and wandering about, nor for enjoying pleasures. We were born precisely to make our parents happy. If you make your parents happy today, your children will make you happy in the future. You must stand as an example to others. Only then will you be blessed. The education you received at the Sathya Sai College will bear fruit. I hope that you will earn such renown.
