In plain words
Live up to the name ‘man’
Embodiments of Prema! Women and men alike must achieve mastery of the senses and make their lives worthwhile. Today unrest grows in so many ways for the very reason that there is no control over the senses. There is no longer any bound or measure to desires. When there is no bound or measure, people roam about like bulls. You must not turn out like beasts. When any bad qualities rise up in you, you must warn yourselves, ‘I am a human being, not a beast.’ Anger is the mark of a beast. When anger comes, they fight with one another. Today men too fight like beasts. Anger must not come to a human being at all. Even if anger does come, he must restrain it. He must stay calm. When we nurture calm, there is no room for unrest at all. Today even the beasts seem better than men. Beasts at least have a season and a reason. But for man today, no season, no reason! Man today is sinking lower than the beasts. When you think, ‘I am a man’, you must act in keeping with that name. You must nurture humanness. You must develop human Viveka and human discernment. Only then will you have the right to say, ‘I am a man.’
Śānti is not outside; it is within you alone
Embodiments of Prema! Follow the path of Satya. Under no circumstances enter into untruth. Where is Śānti? It is within you alone. You go searching, thinking it may be outside. Peace is not outside. Outside, all is Pieces, Pieces! Śānti and Ānanda cannot be had in the outer world. People do japa thinking that japa will bring Ānanda. The rosary keeps turning in their hands, but Śānti does not come at all. ‘Swami! We want peace of mind,’ many people keep asking Me. Peace of mind is right there with you! Never at any time have I known unrest.
