In plain words
I am always at peace, and only at peace. For that is My very nature. What is the cause of your losing Śānti? Desires, nothing else! That is why I keep telling you to cut down the luggage of desires on the journey of life. The more desires decrease, the more our burden decreases.
Whatever comes, hold the feeling, ‘This is only for my good, only for my good, only for my good.’ If you develop such good feeling, everything turns good. Good is not somewhere outside; it is within us alone. We must inquire into every matter calmly and patiently. We must always be happy. First of all, recognise what humanness means. Humanness is precisely that which is filled with Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema. If these four are with us, we shall experience Śānti unceasingly; smiles will dance on our faces. But when the mind is not as it should be, we have to suffer unrest in every way.
Give bad qualities no place in the heart
Embodiments of Prema! You are not mere beings of human form; the divinity of Mādhava is in you. Recognise this Satya. As long as you regard yourselves as human beings, unrest will not leave you. Sometimes changes come about through food and pastimes; bad qualities such as anger and jealousy rise up. We must put them down at once. We must not give bad qualities room in the heart. We have built a house. We have fitted it with doors. Just because it has doors, do we open them and let in donkeys, pigs, snakes and scorpions? We do not. If they do try to come in, we shut the doors at once. Our heart too has a door called control. Shut it. Then the poisonous creatures called bad qualities cannot enter the heart. We must not revile anyone; we must not harm anyone.
