In plain words

I gave My word that it would surely happen so. Once I was coming back from Madras by car. Subbamma had died just the day before. They were trying to carry her body from Bukkapatnam to the cremation ground. The moment they saw Me, some people came running and said, “Swami, Subbamma died only yesterday.” “That is your delusion. Subbamma has not died. She will not go until she has seen Me,” I said, and I turned the car back. And who was driving the car then? I was! I stopped the car right there and went to her house. Her mother was still alive then, poor woman! “Swami, until last night she kept thinking of You alone, ‘Sairam, Sairam’. She kept asking everyone, ‘Has Swami come? Has Swami come?’” she said, in great sorrow. I took off the cloth that covered Subbamma's body and threw it aside. I called, ‘Subbamma! Subbamma!’ She opened her eyes. At any time whatever, when God gives His word, He does not forget it. ‘What you wanted was water poured by My hands, was it not! Here, take it,’ I said, and dipping a tulasī leaf in water I poured it into her mouth. ‘I am blessed, Swami!’ she said, holding both My hands tight and pressing them to her eyes. Everyone was astonished. ‘Swami! I have been waiting for Your leave. Give me leave. Now I shall go,’ she said. I gave her permission. She merged in Me. That is why I built a colony here in Subbamma's name. She was a very great, blessed soul. Now and then she would talk with Easwaramma through the window. “Easwaramma! You gave birth to Swami; I brought Him up. So you are Devakī Devī. I am Yaśodā,” she would say. “Subbamma! Will you, who fed so many devotees, not get the reward you deserve? You surely will,” Easwaramma would say. Before she went, Subbamma came to Easwaramma: “I am going. Look after Sathya well,” she said. Both of them shed tears. Just the day after that, Subbamma breathed her last.
