In plain words

These three can be spread through the villages. For that we must give good training. Without spirituality all studies are needless!

In the world there are crores upon crores of educated people. But what are they doing? Are they giving society any help? They are doing nothing. They do not even look society in the face! Caught by the craze for town life, they are getting hooked on bad practices like clubs and gambling. Seeing them, the children too travel the same road. First of all we must set the children on the right road. Seeing them, the elders too will take to the good path. With this aim I have resolved to build our university campus at Muddenahalli. It will cost two or three crores. Even so, it does not matter. This is good use, good conduct, good thinking. Now, what kind of children have come to us here in Prasanthi Nilayam? All of them are children like gold. Though they may have some fault or other, they correct themselves and adjust as they go. Such qualities must come into children.

Yesterday our children put on a drama. That drama carried a very great message. In a small village two brothers keep quarrelling over property. “My dear boys! If you go on quarrelling like this, how can our village ever progress? You two must stay united,” the elders tell them, and holding up Rāma and Bharata as the ideal, they set the pair right. In this way we must have the children do some work for the progress of the villages. Today, though the students are good, the elders are spoiling them. The elders themselves lead the children astray. Now the children themselves are teaching their elders good sense. When the father drinks toddy, “Father! You should not do such bad things. Through this you would be teaching us bad ways as well. This is not good,” they counsel him. If one smokes and drinks toddy and does such things in front of children, the children take up that very habit too. If the elders go the wrong way, the children who watch them go to ruin as well.
