5Then the lotus-born saw the lotus on which he stood, and the water, shaken by the wind whose force time had made. 6With his austerity growing, and by the knowledge that rests in the self, his power of understanding increased, and he drank up the wind together with the water. 7Seeing then the lotus on which he stood spreading out through the sky, he thought: with this I shall fashion the worlds that were dissolved before. 8Then, entering the cup of the lotus, urged on by the Bhagavan's own working, he divided that one thing into many: into three, and into what was to become fourteen. 9So much is the division of states in the world of the living, gathered together; and that highest one is the ripening of a dharma that has no motive.
10As you have spoken of Hari of many forms and wonderful deeds, brahmin, lord, describe to us that mark of his which is called time.
