There is no road as kind as devotion set to work upon the Bhagavan, the self of everything, for those who hold to yoga and would reach Brahman. The wise know clinging to be a noose about the self, and one that never wears out. That same clinging, made to the good, is the door of release standing open. The good bear things patiently, they take pity, they are friends to everything that carries a body, they make no enemies, they are at peace. The good are the ornament of the good. They give me a firm devotion with no other thought in it, and for my sake they have laid down their works and left their own people and their kin.

The sweet stories that rest on me, those they hear, and those they tell. The many burnings do not burn them, whose minds have gone into me. These are the good, good woman, free of every clinging. It is attachment to them that you should ask for, since they take the harm out of attachment. From keeping company with the good come stories of me and of what my strength is, medicine for the ear and for the heart. From taking pleasure in them, trust, then delight, then devotion quickly follow one after another on the road to release. Detachment is born in a man through devotion, detachment from what the senses bring, from what is seen and what is heard, as he keeps my doings in mind. Held to yoga, working at the holding of his thought, he will strive by the straight roads of yoga.

By not serving the strands of nature, by knowledge opened wide with detachment, by yoga, and by devotion laid down in me, a man lays hold of me here, who am the self within.
