Those whose aim is me are never lost in that peaceful state of mine, and my weapon, which does not blink, does not lick at them: those for whom I am the beloved, the self, the son, the friend, the teacher, the well-wisher, the god they choose. This world here, and that other one, and the self that goes to both, and what follows after a self here, its wealth, its cattle, its houses, all of these they let go, and everything else, and worship me who face every way with a devotion that has no other object, and I carry them across to the far side of death. Nowhere but in me, the Bhagavan, the Lord of nature and of the Person, the self of all beings, does the sharp fear come to an end.

It is from fear of me that this wind blows, from fear of me that the sun burns; from fear of me Indra rains, and fire burns, and death goes about. Those who hold to yoga, by a yoga of devotion joined with knowledge and detachment, enter for their safety the ground of my feet, where fear comes from nowhere. This much and no more is the rising of the highest good for men in this world: the mind laid down in me and steady there, by a keen yoga of devotion.
