1To Manu, on Satarupa, three daughters were born, and they were known as Akuti, Devahuti and Prasuti. 2The king gave Akuti to Ruci, though she had brothers, doing it on the terms by which a daughter's son counts as one's own, and with Satarupa's agreement. 3That lord of creatures, the revered Ruci, bright with the light of Brahman, begot on her a boy and a girl together, by the highest gathering of his mind. 4Of those two, the one who was male was Visnu himself, wearing the form of sacrifice; and she who was female was Daksina, a portion of Fortune, who never leaves him. 5The son of the self-born brought his daughter's son home, whose light was spread wide; and Ruci, filled with gladness, kept Daksina.
6She wanted him, and the Bhagavan, lord of the words of sacrifice, married her; and being pleased with her, who was pleased, he begot twelve sons. 7Tosa, Pratosa, Santosa, Bhadra, Santi, Idaspati, Idhma, Kavi, Vibhu, Svahna, Sudeva and Rocana: twice six of them. 8In the age of the self-born Manu those were the gods called the Tusitas, and Marici and the rest were the seers, and Yajna was the lord of the hosts of gods.
