The sage, his mind lit up by their coming together and showing themselves, stood up there on his one foot and saw those bulls among the gods. He bowed to the ground like a fallen staff and stood before them with his hands folded in honour: they were seated on the bull, the swan and the fair-winged bird, and each was marked with his own marks, and each was made known to him by a look of pity and a smiling face. Struck back by the brightness of them, the sage shut his eyes, and holding his mind leaning towards them, with his hands folded together, he praised those weightiest of all the worlds in smooth and well-made words.

Atri said: You have taken bodies age after age by the strands of maya as they are parcelled out in the arising and the standing and the dissolving of all this: Brahma, Visnu and the lord of the mountain. I bow to you. Which of you is it that I called here? One Bhagavan was held in my thought here, by various means, so that I might have a child. How is it that you have come, you who are far even from the minds of those who wear bodies? Speak, and be gracious. My wonder at this is great.
