The bow that is made inwardly· Verses 22–25

Rising to meet a man, showing him deference, greeting him: these are rightly done between people, slender one; but the wise do them inwardly, to the supreme Person in the cave of the heart, not to one proud of his body. Unmixed clarity is what the word Vasudeva names; where it is reached, the Person stands uncovered. And in that clarity the Bhagavan Vasudeva, beyond the reach of the senses, receives my bow. So Daksa is not for you to look at, father though he is and maker of your body. He hates me, and so do all who follow him, he who, fair one, when I came blameless to the sacrifice of the world's makers, set me aside with foul words.

If you go, setting my word aside, no good will come to you from it. When one who is held in honour is put down by his own people, that slight is at once as good as death.
