33There, in that tree made all of great yoga, the shelter of those who want release, the gods saw Siva sitting, like death itself with its anger laid aside. 34His body was wholly at rest, and he was waited on by the great perfected ones, Sanandana and the others, who are at rest themselves, and by his friend the master of the guhyakas and raksasas. 35He stands on the road of knowledge and austerity and yoga, that overlord; he goes about as everyone's friend, and out of tenderness he is the good of the world. 36He wears the marks that ascetics love, ash and staff and matted hair and deerskin; his body glows like cloud at twilight, and he carries the thin line of the moon.
37He sat on a mat of darbha grass, telling the everlasting Brahman to Narada, who had asked him, while the good sat listening. 38His left foot was set on his right thigh and his arm rested on his knee, a string of beads at his wrist, and he sat with his hand in the sign of argument. 39He was resting in the absorption that is the going out into Brahman, the mountain-dweller leaning on his yoga band; and the sages with the guardians of the worlds folded their hands and bowed to him, the first of the Manus.
