Whatever fate has laid out for a man, if he wears his body and is content with that in pleasure and in pain, he reaches the far side of the dark. From a man of better qualities take gladness, from a lesser one pity, from an equal friendship. Then the burnings do not overcome you. This is the calm that you, revered one, have shown out of pity for men whose selves are struck about by pleasure and pain; and it is hard for such as us to see. Even so, for me, untrained and come into the harsh temper of a kshatriya, it does not lodge in a heart pierced through by the arrows of Suruci's foul words. Brahmin, tell me a good road, for I mean to win a station higher than the three worlds, one that neither our fathers nor anyone else has held.

Surely you, born from the body of the revered one who is highest placed, go about plucking your vina for the good of the world, as the sun goes. Hearing this said, the revered Narada was pleased, and out of pity he answered the boy with a true word.
