When the king's child stood on one foot, the earth, pressed under his toe, went down half way at every step, first on one side and then on the other, like a boat with a bull elephant aboard. As he held the whole world within himself and shut off the door and the breath with a mind that turned nowhere else, the worlds were badly pressed for want of breath, and with their guardians they went to Hari for shelter. The gods said: Bhagavan, we know nothing like this stopping of the breath of all that moves and does not move, of you in whom every being has its dwelling. Bring us out of this trouble; we have come to you for shelter, giver of shelter.

Bhagavan said: Do not be afraid. I will turn the boy back from an austerity that cannot be got past. Go back to your own places. It is Uttanapada's son who stopped your breath, and his self has come together with mine.
