1Revered one, what you have said is not rightly taken in by us. The wise understand it; we do not, for our works have bewildered us. 2Know Puranjana for the Person, since he makes plain a city of his own: one with a single foot, or two, or three, or four, or many feet, or none at all. 3The one called Unknown is that Person's friend and lord. He is not known by men, not by names, nor by acts, nor by qualities. 4When the Person, wanting to take hold of nature's strands entire, came on a form with nine gates and two hands and two feet, he thought it good. 5Know the woman for the understanding, whose work it is to make mine and I. Standing on her, the Person in this body tastes the strands through the senses.
6The men who were his friends are the crowd of the senses, which do the knowing and the acting; the women are their workings; and the breath with its five workings is the serpent.
