19The mind is its rein, the understanding its driver, the heart its seat, the pairs its shaft; the five things the senses want are its weapons, the seven elements its armour. 20Its striving is its might, turned outward, and it runs at a mirage. The eleven senses are its troops, and the five killing places of the house its sport. 21Candavega is the year, by which time is marked. His days are the gandharvas here and his nights the gandharva women; three hundred and sixty of them, going round and round, carry off a life. 22The daughter of Time is old age itself, and the world is not glad of her. Death, lord of the yavanas, took her for a sister, for the wasting away of things.
23His soldiers, the yavanas who go about, are the troubles of the mind and the troubles of the body. Prajvara, swift as an assault of spirits, is fever of two kinds. 24So, worn by pains of many kinds, those that come from fate, from other beings and from himself, the one who wears a body suffers a hundred years, covered over by darkness.
