Verse 14
By the river of the wheel· Verses 8–14
।
8So, when a thousand times ten thousand years were over and the time had come to lay his works down, he divided among his sons, each by his share, the wealth of his fathers and grandfathers that he had been enjoying; and he himself went out from his own house, which was the seat of every kind of riches, to the hermitage of Pulaha. 9There, even now, the Bhagavan Hari, out of tenderness toward his own people who live in that place, is brought near in whatever form they wish. 10There the best of rivers, called the Wheel, makes the hermitage grounds clean on every side, with the navelled stone wheels that lie along both its banks.
11In that grove by Pulaha's hermitage he was alone, and worked at the worship of the Bhagavan with many kinds of flowers and young shoots and tulasi and water, and with offerings of bulbs and roots and fruit. Set apart, his longing for the things of sense laid to rest and his calm brought full, he came to the highest ease. 12By that unbroken waiting on the Person his heart melted and gave way under the growing weight of his love for the Bhagavan. In the rush of his gladness the hair stood up all over him in crop after crop, and tears of love, risen out of his longing, shut his eyes from seeing. So his thought sank into the deep pool of a heart flooded with the highest delight, through the yoga of devotion made familiar by dwelling on the reddened lotus feet of his own beloved; and he did not even remember the worship of the Bhagavan that he was making.
13So he held to his vow to the Bhagavan, wearing a black antelope skin, shining with the mass of his curling tawny matted hair, wet from the bathing he did at every pressing; and standing before the disc of the sun as it rose, worshipping with a hymn to the sun the Bhagavan, the golden Person, he said this. 14Beyond the dust, the splendour of the god Savitr, who knows all that is born, brought this forth by mind. Entering it again with good seed, he looks out from it. We come near to that swan, who takes hold, who sits in men and moves in them.
