Bhagavan said: However many things there are in the three worlds that a man holds dear, king, all of them together cannot fill up one whose senses are not mastered. A man not content with three paces would not be filled by an island either, with its nine regions, because he would want the best of the seven islands. Kings who were lords of the seven islands, Vainya and Gaya and the rest, did not come to the end of thirst by wealth or by anything they wanted. So we have heard. A man content with what comes to him of itself lives happily. One not content is not happy even with three worlds, when a self unmastered has brought them to him.

This is what makes a man's round of birth: not being content with wealth and with what he wants. Contentment with what comes of itself is remembered as leading to release. The fire of a brahmin content with what comes to him grows; and that fire is put out by discontent, as fire is put out by water. So I ask three paces and no more of you, bull among the givers of boons. With just so much I am accomplished: wealth reaches only as far as its use.
