Three colours, and the man on his way· Verses 19–22

19They say that this world's birth and standing and gathering in are from you, mighty one, though you do not act, are beyond the strands, and do not change. In you, the Lord, Brahman, this is no contradiction: the strands are spoken of you because they rest in you. 20For the keeping of the three worlds you take on, by your own maya, the white colour of yourself; and for the bringing forth, the red, swelled with passion; and the black colour, with darkness, for the ending of what has been born. 21Wishing to guard this world, mighty one, lord of all, you have come down in my house; and you will kill the armies drawn up by the leaders of the tens of millions of demons who go under the name of kshatriyas.
22But this uncivil man, hearing of your birth in our house, killed your elder brothers, lord of the gods. And now, hearing from his men that you have come down, he is on his way this moment with his weapon raised.
