You two, husband and wife, had not tasted the pleasures of ordinary life, and you had no child; and you did not choose release from me, being bewildered by my maya. When I had gone, having got the boon of a son like me, the two of you enjoyed the pleasures of ordinary life, your wish being now got. Seeing no one else in the world your equal in the qualities of character and generosity, I became your son, and I was known as Prsnigarbha. Then again, of you two, I came to be from Kasyapa in Aditi, known as Upendra, and, because I was small, as Vamana. In this third coming to be, in that same body, I have been born once more of the two of you, of the same pair. What I said to you is true, good woman.

This form was shown to you so that you would remember my earlier births. Otherwise the knowledge of what I am does not arise from the sign of a mortal. The two of you, thinking of me again and again both as your son and as Brahman, with love made toward me, will go to my highest station.
