Then the Bhagavan, the son of Devaki, and Sankarsana came up to Nanda, best of kings, took him in their arms, and said this to him. Father, the two of you were fond of us, and you fed us and petted us greatly. A father and mother love their children more than they love themselves. He is the father and she is the mother who bring up as their own the little ones cast off by kinsmen who cannot feed them and cannot keep them safe. Go back to Vraja, father, all of you; and we will come to see you and your people, who are made unhappy by their love, once we have seen to the ease of our friends. Having settled Nanda and the men of Vraja with him in this way, the Bhagavan, the Unfallen, honoured them respectfully with clothes and ornaments and vessels and the rest.

Spoken to in this way, Nanda held the two of them, overcome by love, and with his eyes filling with tears he went back to Vraja with the cowherds.
