Spoken to in this way, king, Uddhava took his master's message with all honour, mounted his chariot and set out for Nanda's Gokula. That fortunate man reached Nanda's Vraja as the fire of the sky was going down, his going hidden in the dust from the hooves of the cattle coming in; loud with rutting bulls fighting each other over the cows in season, and with cows running to their own calves, heavy with their udders; made handsome by white calves jumping this way and that, sounding with the noise of the milking and with the sound of flutes; shining with the cowherd women, well decked out, singing the good deeds of Bala and Krsna, and shining with the cowherd men;

delightful with the cowherds' houses, where the fire, the sun, the guest, the cow, the brahmin, the fathers and the gods were worshipped, with incense and lamps and with garlands; the woods in flower on every side, loud with flocks of birds and swarms of bees, made lovely with beds of lotuses across which swans and ducks were scattered.
