Then Uddhava, hearing them so hungry for the sight of Krsna, comforted the cowherd women with their beloved's messages and said this to them: You have your whole purpose full, and the world honours you, since your minds have been given over in this way to Vasudeva the Bhagavan. By gifts, by vows, by austerity, by the fire offering, by prayer said over, by study of one's own text, by holding oneself in, and by many other good works, devotion to Krsna is brought about. And by you, by good fortune, an unsurpassed devotion has been set going toward the Bhagavan whose renown is highest, a devotion sages themselves come by only with difficulty.

By good fortune you gave up sons and husbands and bodies and your own people and your houses, and chose the highest Person, whose name is Krsna. By this parting, greatly favoured ones, the state of being all self toward the one beyond the reach of the senses has become yours; and a great kindness has been done to me. Hear now your beloved's message, which will bring you gladness. It is what I came here carrying, good women; I am the one who keeps my master's secrets.
