Who was that man, brahmin, and whose son, and of what strength? Why had he gone into the cave and lain down there? What splendour did the destroyer of the Yavana have? He was born in the family of Iksvaku, the great son of Mandhatr, known as Mucukunda, a friend to the brahmins and true to his word. The hosts of gods, Indra and the rest, terrified of the antigods, asked him to guard them, and he did that guarding for a long time. When they had got Guha for the guardian of heaven, they said to Mucukunda: King, leave off this hard guarding of us. Leaving the world of men and a kingdom whose thorns you had killed, you guarded us, hero, and every wish of yours was let go.

Your sons, your queens, your kinsmen, your ministers and counsellors, and the people of your own time, are not here now: time has driven them on. Time is stronger than the strong, the Bhagavan, the Lord, who does not wear away. He drives creatures before him in his play, as a herdsman drives cattle.
