Seeing them come on, the captains of the Yadava companies turned and stood facing them, king, and made their bows sing. From horseback and elephant shoulder and chariot floor the skilled ones let fall showers of arrows, as clouds let down water on the hills. Seeing her husband's force hidden under that rain of arrows, the slender one looked shyly at his face, her eyes unsteady with fear. The Bhagavan laughed and said: Do not be afraid, lovely-eyed. This enemy force will be destroyed by your own men this very moment.

Those heroes, Gada and Sankarsana and the others, could not bear that show of strength, and struck down their horses and elephants and chariots with iron shafts. Heads of chariot fighters and horsemen and elephant riders fell to the ground by the ten million, with their earrings and their crowns and their turbans on them, and hands still holding swords and maces and bows, and forearms, and thighs, and feet, and the heads of horses and mules and elephants and camels and asses and men. Their forces cut down by the Vrsnis, who wanted the victory, the kings turned away and went, Jarasandha at the head of them.
