Coming up to Sisupala, who was as wretched as a man whose wife has been taken, his brightness gone, his spirit gone, his face dry, they said to him: Come, tiger among men, let go of this low mood. King, no fixed state of the welcome or the unwelcome is to be seen in those who wear bodies. As a woman made of wood is danced at the will of the man working her, so this man, under the Lord's rule, moves through his pleasures and pains. Seventeen engagements I fought with the son of Sura and was beaten; with twenty-three armies I won just one. Even so I do not grieve, and I am never elated, knowing that the world is driven this way and that by time joined with what is fated.

And now all of us, captains of captains of heroes, have been beaten by the Yadus, whose forces are slight, because Krsna guards them. Our enemies have won now, when time runs their way. We shall win at the time when time turns to our right hand. Woken up like this by his friends, the Cedi went to his city with his followers, and the kings who were left after the killing went back each to his own city.
