The cows I gave away· Verses 12–15

As many as the grains of sand on the earth, as many as the stars in the sky, as many as the streams of the rain: so many cows did I give away. They were in milk and young, well set in temper and shape and quality, brown, with their horns plated in gold and their hooves in silver, honestly come by, each with her calf; and I gave them decked in fine cloth and garlands and ornaments. I gave them to young men, bulls among the twice-born, well turned out, of good quality and character, with households in want, true to their vows, given to austerity and learning and the Veda, open-handed and good. Cows, land, gold, houses, horses, elephants; girls with the maids to serve them, sesame, silver, beds; clothes, jewels, furnishings, chariots. I sacrificed with sacrifices, and I did works for the common good.
