24What a wonder this is, brought on by the going of time, which no one gets past: a shoe wants to climb up onto the head that wears the crown. 25These Vrsnis, tied to us by marriage, sharing our bed and our seat and our food, have been brought up to be our equals; the seat of kings was given to them by us. 26The yak-tail fans, the conch, the white parasol, the crown, the throne, the couch: they enjoy every one of them because we have looked the other way. 27Enough of the marks of a king for the Yadus, when for the giver they turn out backwards, as nectar does for snakes. Yadavas who were built up by our favour are giving orders today, and shame has gone out of them.
28How could even Indra take what has not been given by the Kurus, by Bhisma and Drona and Arjuna and the rest, any more than a lamb takes what a lion has in its jaws? 29Bull of the Bharatas, having said to Rama's face what should not be said, those men, drunk with the pride of their birth and their kinsmen and their wealth, and with no manners in them, went back into the city.
