34Then on a level yard the two heroes closed with each other and struck with those maces like thunderbolts, both of them wild with the fight. 35Circling in fine figures, to the left and to the right, the two of them made a fight that was good to look at, like two players on a stage. 36Then came a cracking sound, king, like the crash of a thunderbolt, from the maces as they were thrown, like the tusks of two tusked elephants meeting. 37Those two maces, brought down by the speed of their arms on each other's shoulders and hips, feet and hands, thighs and collarbones, met and were ground to powder like two arka branches, as when two elephants fight with their fury lit in them.
38So, when the maces were beaten to pieces, the two heroes of men in their fury pounded each other with fists hard as iron. The sound of them striking, like two elephants, rose from the beating of their palms and was harsh as a falling thunderbolt. 39As the two struck at each other so, equal in training, in strength and in fire, and with neither of them slowing, the fight came out no way at all, king. 40So they fought, great king, and twenty-seven days went by there, the two of them staying together at night like friends.
