21Turning this over inside himself he came near his own house, and found it ringed on every side with mansions like the sun and the fire and the moon, 22with strange groves and gardens crowded with families of birds calling, and waters where the white lily and the lotus and the kahlara and the blue lotus stood open, 23and full of well-dressed men and of women with the eyes of does. What is this? Whose place is it? How has it come to be? So he wondered. 24While he was still trying to make sense of it, men and women bright as the deathless ones came out to welcome that greatly favoured man with a great deal of singing and playing.
25His wife heard that her husband had come, and in her gladness she could hardly hold herself still, and came quickly out of the house, like Sri herself taking form and leaving her dwelling. 26Faithful to her husband, she looked at him with eyes full of tears from love and longing, and closed them, and bowed to him in her mind, and held him there. 27Seeing his wife shining out like a goddess in a heavenly car, standing bright among servants with gold at their throats, he was amazed.
