I went into that ring on feet whose anklets chimed, holding a chain of gold bright with jewels, wrapped and dressed in two new pieces of the finest silk, my face at once shy and smiling, a garland in my braided hair. I lifted my face, with its heavy curls and the light of the earrings on my cheeks, and looked slowly all round at the kings, letting cool smiles and sidelong glances go, and with my heart already given I laid my garland on the shoulder of the enemy of Mura. Just then drums and kettledrums and conches and trumpets and tabors and the rest sounded out, the dancers danced, and the singers sang. When I had chosen the Bhagavan, the Lord, in this way, the leaders of the kings could not bear it, and set themselves against him, sick with the desire lying in their hearts, Yajnaseni.
