34When you are there, taken as their self, in whom all taste is, what are their own people to men, or sons, or the body, or wife, wealth, house, land, life and chariots? So for those who do not know the real, who go about for pleasure out of a couple, who here can give happiness, when the thing is struck down by itself and its splendour cast out by itself? 35Sages free of pride are on this earth the seats of fords of much merit; their hearts are at your lotus feet, and the water of their feet breaks wrongdoing. Those who once set their mind on you, the self, in whom happiness does not end, do not again attend on those houses that carry off a man's strength.
36If it is said that this has risen from what is and so is real, that is struck down by reasoning: it goes wrong here and there, and here and there it is false, and it is not joined to both in that way. Division is wanted for common dealing, handed on by a line of blind men. Your speech, with its many turnings, sets those who are dull with hymns whirling. 37Since this was not there at the beginning, and will not be after its end, it is inferred to be in between; and it shows in you, who are of one taste, falsely. So it is compared by the ways that divide up the kinds of substance; and the unwise make out that the play of an untrue mind is real.
38When he lies down with the unborn one by the unborn one, taking up the strands, he comes to be of her likeness, and after that to death, his splendour gone. But you leave her as a snake leaves its skin, keeping your splendour, and you are magnified in a greatness eight times multiplied, your splendour past measuring.
