52One should not give too much love or attachment anywhere or to anyone. A man who does will find grief, like the dove, and his mind will be brought low. 53A certain dove in the forest made a nest in a great tree and lived there with his wife the dove for some years. 54The two doves, their hearts strung tight with love, keeping the way of a household, bound eye to eye, limb to limb, and mind to mind. 55Lying down and sitting, walking and standing, talking, playing, eating and the rest, they went about as a pair among the rows of trees, and had no care. 56Whatever she wanted, king, she who pleased him and whom he cherished, he brought that wish about for her, even at a cost, for he was not master of his senses.
57The she-dove took her first pregnancy, and when the time came she laid eggs in the nest, faithful, with her husband beside her.
